As of now, you should be aware that the release of WordPress 5.0 RC is scheduled for December 6, 2018.

To help you stay far from the hassle, it is our recommendation that, if you are deliberating updating to WordPress 5.0 immediately after it is released (December 6, 2018), think twice before doing that.

WordPress 5.0 is a major update that comes with some new capabilities and a major change of platform but, it has never been tested along with your theme version and plugins and it is very possible to bring up bugs, problems or even break down your live site completely. in case you are thinking that this is a new update, why not try it, well, do it at your personal risk and think if it’s worth risking your business’ website just for the sake of ‘trying’ before testing with it.

What we are asking is that you do a little testing on staging or test websites before simply updating it on your live site.
We first suggest upgrading to WP 5.0 if you are doing it for your test to avoid losing your clients.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP of your site before upgrading

if you are not the ‘techies’ type and you've got other people installed your site for you, you should only upgrade to WP 5 in the next weeks or so, until when many others have tested it and ensure it is running well with your set of topics and plugins.
When you have a technician doing everything for you, it is in reality prudent to let him do the upgrade for you, and it's far best that he does it in your staging/testing environment before doing it for the live website.
Later, you should only upgrade to WP5 in your production site when you finish testing.
Just hold on, give yourself until next week after which it'll be time to update.
